Events
We're just getting started as the new owners of the Drift but we hope to build a busy and exciting calendar of events which builds a community of people who love to explore the great outdoors and love the north east coast as much as us!
First up we're holding a festive night at The Drift to introduce ourselves, talk about our around the world journey by scooter and sidecar and find out what events you'd like in 2026.
Expect a festive feast and a fun talk - find out more on the link below.

Our Story
The Drift Café takes its name from its origins as the entrance to the Blakemore Drift Mine.
The mine closed in the 1950s, and in the decades since, the site has welcomed beach-goers with coffee, snacks, and a perfect place to pause by the sea.
We’re delighted to share that, as of September 2025, The Drift has new owners. We—Matt and Reece—are now proudly at the helm of the North East’s number-one coastal café! Although this is our first adventure into café management, we’ve spent years working together as adventurers, experience-day providers, and festival organisers. We’re perhaps best known for becoming the first people ever to circumnavigate the globe by scooter and sidecar.
